7th and 8th graders from Amity went on a field trip on January 8th to Discovery Center’s Bodies exhibit: Pulse. The field trip was a cross-curricular adventure in that it combined both arts and science. The students had been studying anatomical structures by sketching them in art and learning about their functions in science. The Bodies Exhibit raised questions like, “are we over-working our bodies with all the options we have to choose from?” and “What does it look like when muscles are in tension?” Students followed up their visit with cupcakes and a recap of something they learned pertaining to science and an image that stuck with them for art. The connections between these two subjects were clear in the beauty of the sculptures and the scientific insight they provided.
