Who knew a mock henna party would knit two distinctive cultures together? Surely the Young Peace Builders girls did. On January 12, 2017 a group from Kings Bay Y gathered at our school to learn about the tradition of henna nights in Turkish culture. The Muslim girls were also able to ask questions about Jewish weddings. The program consisted of two parts: one being the history of henna nights and the other being a mock portrayal; the girls ate traditional foods and danced to Turkish music. This fun experience was also embellished by our henna experts’ beautiful designs. At the end of the day, their goodbyes were loaded with sentimental friendship and empathy.
