After several laborious months of brainstorming ideas, writing poems, and peer editing, the Poetry Club submitted their work to Adelphi University for the 2017 Poetry Day event. On Wednesday, April 19th, we began our long-anticipated journey to the college campus and then patiently waited for our assigned workshops; these workshops were instructed by experienced professors who specialized in poetry. This granted an opportunity for us to interact with other poets and to empathize with their views on aspects of life. What followed was everyone’s favorite: the Poetry Slam. These aforementioned poets lined up to present their personal works in front of everyone; they illustrated experiences of infatuation, perdition, or transcendence. Furthermore, everyone sat and listened to the keynote address by Joseph O. Legaspi. He gave the audience a peak of his life as a poet by talking about his family, culture, and heritage. Near the end, awards of citation and excellence were given to many schools who submitted their prose. Although our students did not receive any awards, they sent out their diligent work and felt proud. Thank you, Sukanya S, Nihal C, Idalis W, Cynthia S, Merve A, and Melis G for participating and working efficiently in the club.
