Brooklyn Amity School Volunteers Shine at NYC Marathon 2024

Brooklyn Amity School’s Helping Hands Club made us proud once again by volunteering at one of the world’s most iconic races—the NYC Marathon. With over 50,000 runners taking on the 26.2-mile course through New York City’s five boroughs, it was an inspiring and memorable experience for our students and chaperones who helped out at this grand event.

Our team of student volunteers was led by two dedicated chaperones, including Mr. Ali Kahya, fondly known as "Ali Baba." A seasoned marathon runner himself, Mr. Kahya has participated in marathons for the past 27 years. Unfortunately, due to a leg injury, he couldn’t run this year, but his passion for the marathon spirit remained as strong as ever. Instead of sitting it out, Mr. Kahya volunteered at one of the hydration stations, handing out water to passing runners and cheering them on with encouraging words. His presence and dedication to service made a strong impression on our students, showing them the importance of resilience and community support.

Our Helping Hands Club, known for their commitment to giving back to the community, embraced the opportunity to be part of this major event. They spent the day at a busy water station, where they kept the runners hydrated and motivated. Volunteering at an event of this scale is no small feat, and our students demonstrated exceptional teamwork and spirit throughout the day. From filling up cups to shouting words of encouragement, they supported the marathoners and took pride in representing Brooklyn Amity School with kindness and enthusiasm.

The NYC Marathon is not just a race; it’s a celebration of endurance, unity, and strength that brings together people from all walks of life. For our students, being involved in this incredible event was more than just volunteer work—it was an opportunity to witness perseverance up close and to experience the powerful impact of helping others. It was a chance to see how small acts of support can make a big difference, especially in the final miles when runners need encouragement the most.

Thank you to Mr. Kahya, our other chaperones, and each of our student volunteers for making Brooklyn Amity School proud! Your efforts and dedication reflect the core values of our school, and we couldn’t be more honored to have such a compassionate and hardworking community.

Stay tuned for more updates from the Helping Hands Club, and let’s continue to make a difference, one act of kindness at a time!
